Byron received his B.Sc. in Computer Science from University of Toronto. At Thoora, Byron implemented the adaptive distributed fetcher to monitor the blogosphere. His current responsibilities are to ensure that Thoora has a robust, scalable and high performance infrastructure.
Michael Cvet
Lead Software Developer
Co-Founder
Michael is a graduate of Computer Science and Mathematical Sciences from the University of Toronto. His professional interests involve computational parallelization, systems, data mining and cryptography
Kyu Lee
Lead Software Developer
Co-Founder
Kyu is currently building the next generation distributed storage system for Thoora. He also writes efficient, fast and scalable software, as well as architecting large scale systems.
Darius Braziunas
Research Scientist
Darius is a research scientist at Thoora, solving problems in machine learning, ranking and optimization. He is interested in finding new and effective ways of eliciting, representing and reasoning with user preferences, with applications ranging from recommendation systems to search and news consumption. Before joining Thoora, Darius worked at Apple and studied computer science at the University of Toronto.
Ken Struys
Front-End Engineer
Ken is a recent graduate of U of T where he earned his B.Sc in Computer Science. In addition to Frontend Development, Ken is interested in functional programming, steel drum and robotics. Since starting at Thoora Ken has taken great interest in emerging web technologies and user interface design.
Marius Clapa
Front-End Engineer
With a B.Sc in Computer Science and Mathematics Marius has chosen work in Web Engineering, complimenting his side-interests of web security and exploits. As any other young, naive computer programmer he has taken a liking to video games, paintball and skiing.
Alex Novikov
Software Developer, Intern
Alex is an undergraduate student in Software Engineering program at University of Waterloo. His major areas of interest include computer graphics, distributed systems, and AI.
Brian Chan
Software Developer, Intern
Brian is a computer engineering undergraduate at the University of Toronto. He specializes at stare-downs with the screen, hoping someday to will his code to write itself. He is also a professional sleeper, major league soda drinker and steak eating superstar.
Yingbo Miao, M.Sc.
Senior Software Developer
Yingbo is working on search and web mining. He is combining algorithms and system architecture together to build technical driving products for Thoora. He worked at ask.com before joining Thoora, and his master's degree in Computer Science is from Dalhousie University.
Liqin Xu, Ph.D.
Senior Software Developer
Liqin is an expert in the fields of machine learning, computational linguistics, and information retrieval. He got his Ph.D. from Tsinghua University in China. Before joining Thoora, he had been working at NEC Labs China for 5 years. He has 9 patents and more than 10 publications.
Ksenia Shubina, M.Sc.
Software Developer
Ksenia Shubina joined Thoora in September of 2008. Previously she worked as a researcher at theLaboratory for Active and Attentive Vision on various projects in the field of visually-guided mobile robotics. Her projects included an autonomous wheelchair for the mobility impaired. Ksenia earned her B.Sc. and M.Sc. from York University.

Michael is interested in, and working on, innovative solutions through novel algorithm and architecture design, together with smart coding and system implementation. He is an advocator and practitioner of secure SDLC management and secure programming.
Eugene Doktorov
Senior Software Developer
Eugene has 13 years of experience on architecting, designing, and implementing highly scalable middle-layer systems and distributed platforms. He also has an extensive hands-on experience with clustering & load balancing of communication servers, solving scalability & performance problems.

Kyoung is currently enrolled in Computer Science at University of Toronto. He specializes in software engineering, and is mostly interested in systems and networking

Husni moved to Toronto to take on his next challenge as the CEO of Thoora. Husni is an entrepreneur and management professional possessing over 13 years of extensive experience in business development. During his career Husni has focused on analyzing business trends to establish business growth strategies, research market structure and spearhead strategic initiatives to build business from the ground up including efforts on revenues, marketing, sales and regional growth.
Previously, Husni was Google's Country Business Development Manager for the UAE, Lower Gulf and Levant. He was responsible for developing and exploring strategic and operational initiatives in the region as well as providing market expertise to identify growth opportunities for the region.

Chul Lee
Founder and Chief Technology Officer
Chul started Thoora while he was working as a researcher at the UofToronto.
He previously worked as applied research scientist at Brandimensions investigating various algorithmic approaches to study the formation and evolution of on-line communities. He also worked as director of R&D at Genieknows leading a team of engineers to develop local and vertical search engines.
Chul earned his B.Sc. from UDLA-P (Mexico) and his M.Sc/Ph.D. from UofToronto.
